Structural Pattern. A world in which a seeker, called to seek understanding or vision, undertakes a demanding linear journey — preparation and purification, a journey to a sacred place, a period of solitude and testing, the reception of a vision or understanding, its integration, and a transformed return to community. The movement is a progression through stages toward the vision and the return; the seeker is changed by the journey and brings the vision back to the people.
Time. Linear — a progression through the stages of the quest, each following the last, toward the vision at its heart and the transformed return that completes it.
The Valued. The call to seek. Preparation, purification, and humility. Solitude and the willingness to be tested. The vision or understanding received. Its integration. The return that brings the vision back to community. (The sacred specifics belong to the living nations and are not reproduced.)
Approached with the deepest restraint. The vision seeking is a sacred ceremony. Only the shape of the story is described here; the ceremony, its practices, songs and restricted knowledge stay with their keepers.

The vision-quest pattern is a linear progression — call, preparation and purification, journey to the sacred place, solitude and testing, vision reception, integration, and return — each stage following the last toward the vision at its heart and the transformed return that completes it. The movement is a single through-line of the seeker's transformative journey, progressing toward the vision and back to community. It is Linear architecture in a sacred-journey form.
Call to Quest → Preparation & Purification → Journey to Sacred Space → Solitude & Testing → Vision Reception → Integration & Understanding → Return & Community Integration.
The vision seeking — haŋbléčheya among the Lakota, hambeday among the Dakota — is a sacred, living ceremony, held within specific protocols and guided by qualified spiritual leaders. This entry describes only the shape of the seeker's journey as a story. It does not reproduce or teach the ceremony, its practices, songs or restricted knowledge, and it is no guide to performing it. For anything more, Lakota and Dakota communities and their own sources are the place to go.
